Congratulations to Jessica Farley for being the 1000 person to vote online in the KS3 Chills Award. Jessica has won all of the titles in the award. (14 in all). Book club has been running for only a few weeks and this really is a great incentive to read and vote. Well done.

Arctic Hero by Catherine Johnson

Finished this book in on sitting. It is the true story of Matthew Henson an explorer, survivor and arctic hero. It starts with his tragic life in America and ends with him being a national hero 45 years after his death. Read this truly amazing story and be inspired.
A good sized font with a few graphic illustrations make it an easy read. 7/10
Scared to Death - The End

Well I've finally finished this great book. Not what I expected, better. The story takes a mysterious journey through London in the time of Jack the Ripper (so you think). Redman truly is evil with a dark seed leading him on.(you'll understand when you read the book). The last few chapters had me engrossed in the excellent build up to a fantastic end, or is it? Watch this space for the next book Hell's Nightmare II.
The author has clearly researched the serial killer Jack. Locations and dates are factual. Well written 8/10

Scared to Death part II
The story has become dark and sinister, people are not what I thought they were. Redman, I think has a real grievance with the other character in the book. (Who I think is darker than I first thought). Nearly at the end and some questions are finally being answered. Watch this space..........

Scared to Death by Alan Gibbons

Up to date Jack the Ripper type story with a sinister twist. Locations that are believable to the events and teenagers that are real (or are they)? This story was slow to start but has suddenly made an impact. The story revolves around Redman a character you will not forget in a hurry. His relationship with other characters (I won't name them, cos that might spoil things). All night parties, fighting at school, girlfriends, best friends and much more in this modern take on an old classic story. (or was it)?
Bad Blood - The End
Well I've finally finished Bad Blood and for the most part it was good a CHILLER. However the ending was not what I thought and I was a little disappointed. It became complicated and somewhat hurried. I would recommend this book but I would ask that you read carefully the last four chapters and really absorb the story as to make full sense of it all.
If you figure it out please let me know!

Bad Blood - The next few chapters
Well Fox isn't what I thought he was, Roley is great, John is lovely, even Kat and Cat are understandable, what I don't get is why people stay in such a house. I would have been out of there within minutes. Alice is mysterious she holds a few clues. Tip-toeing across floor boards, not human I think! A dolls house, an attic and a secret room what next, demons in trees?

Bad Blood. The Fox
Have just had my second encounter with The Fox. I really dislike this character. I don't know why, he just makes me feel nervous. Is he responsible for the wasps? Is he even real? Where did he come from? Cannot wait, but a part of me is apprehensive of a downward turn in the plot.
Am half way through the book. Delilah so delightful.

Bad Blood Continued.
More scary goings on in the Lake District. Trees which haunt you, shadows which follow you, and then of course there is Delilah. This family seriously need to pull together or I can for see bad things happening. Don't read this book at night time.
Book club starts soon and this book is on the reading list. I wonder how other people will like it?

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
Finished this book yesterday, Bruno the German boy, Shmual the Polish Boy, the house named Out-With. (read and you will understand). Don't watch the film before you read the book. The ending is powerful. The story emotional, yes you guessed it I Loved it.
A powerful story simply told.

Bad Blood Part 4
OMG this book gets more scary the further you go into it. You will by of course by now have realised that I'm not going to give away the plot, but what I will do is mention from time to time characters that I have met and like. Enter Alice. Don't walk in the woods alone! Read the book.
Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne

Had to start this book, its been sitting on my desk for such a long time. I really wanted to see the film but after starting the book I am glad I didn't. The story begins and you are automatically intrigued as to the profession of Bruno's father. It made me think and I am only 37 pages in.
Half term will give me a chance to do some proper reading.

Bad Blood (part 3)
The story has taken a different road than I thought it would, we have met new characters and discovered interesting facts about the families past. More secrets and missing links to be solved.
Cat is the most unlikeable character I have ever met. (But I think I understand her a little bit).
The house is definitely taking a hold. Listen to your dreams and avoid dolls with no eyes.
If you don't like horror as a genre then this book is not for you, but then again you should try it and make up your own mind.

Further on (Bad Blood)
I have just met the delightful Delilah and the Drones. Books with names scratched out, scissors which are all blunt. Secret cupboards and the delightful Cat who I think will be the first person to fall foul of the house.. Read and feel the goosebumps.
The house is coming alive again.

Kiss of Death by Malcolm Rose
Bad Blood Part 2
The family have reached the house in the Lake District, and by the sound of it I think I would be a little scared. The children are all developing their own personalities to me, still unsure about Cat. Weird goings on and am waiting for strange happenings to begin. Takes a little to get into but cannot wait.

Unsure

I started reading Bad Blood this morning, and to be perfectly honest I am a little unsure as to whether or not I will like it. I can see where it is going but the character of Cat (not Kat, you'll get it if you read the book) is really annoying as a character. The story is set in England , Lake District where a family go on holiday, to a house that once belonged to the dad's dead wife's uncle. I am more interested in the house at the moment than the family but I suppose we need the whole set up. Spooky goings on I predict.

The Black Book of Secrets by F.E.Higgins

I am guilty of looking at this book and judging it by its cover. I assumed it would be about pirates and ghosts. (don't ask me why that's just what I assumed). I was so glad I opened the book and decided to read on.
The book made me cringe with the first chapter delighted by the fifth and by the end of the book I was completely hooked. I wanted to follow the characters, to share their secret. I could even imagine in my head what some of the characters looked like. (which helped me enjoy the book even more).
Not my normal genre to read but am glad I did. Take a look at this book if you enjoy the surprise factor, secrets unveiled and characters you would love to have known.
298 pages of excellent read.
